I'm not the biggest fan of civics but

civic rolling shell - 1000$ at most.. 500$ or less for one in the same condition of your stang.
b18c5 (type-r motor) - 3500$ w\lsd final-drive 5spd tranny as well
zexx nos kit(same as yours) - 400$ (what you said you spent)

= approx 4900$, 4400$ for one in the condition of yours..

thats your 11 second car in less than 5 grand.
and dont include labour.. because everyone and their mother can work on a honda.

is this a joke? lol
if you only had two choices between a 5 series and a civic.. of course 5 series all the way since the 5's is only 2002.

but imo, for $30K, i would get something different. There are so many nice cars you can get.

If it's really a 5 speed, then it's an auto. Manual 540s are 6 speed and come with the sport package w 17" or 18" wheels only - no 16 inchers. 30K is pretty good for a 540 with only 65,000 km.

Snow tires are a must, and M3ti is right.... I am truly amazed at how capable this car is. I can still out drag front drivers with decent snow tires. Maybe you should take your mom for a test drive. I bet she'd like the heated steering wheel. You can't get that in any Honda - ha ha

BTW...It's spelled "subpoena"

Well i think that since you have bad back, the 540 would be much easier getting in and out of, as well as ride comfort. Civic's may be comfortable but they are a compact car and the seats ARE just a few inches of foam over cardboard per say. At least BMW has very comfortable and supportive seats. 540 a good bet for a long term comfortable car, may cost more but will pay off. The Civic will get you good gas mileage and save you money over the long run, just depends how much you would like to spend.

Ok - When I first got the car, I thought the heated steering wheel is SO GAY. But you know, I find that I use it a lot! Now, I don't need gloves in the winter.

I would get a used IS300, especially now that the new style is out, you could probably get a low mileage one for about 24k.

i have not read a single post including the 1st, but just based on the title: 540.
why you would even compare a 540 with an si is beyond me.

But then again, i didn't read any of the posts (out of laziness), and I'm not going to.

Acutally ya - the IS300 is a nice option... However, it is smaller interior wise then even a 323... I found it difficult to be 100% comfortable, but that's just me and my size...

I like the IS300 very much otherwise...

540 is a 100% better car in every aspect.. no doubt..
but some people like brand new cars.. like my parents for instance...
if gas, insurance, warranty and that isn't an issue.. buy the 540.

edit: reason, in 10 years, when half of the civic's body will have rotted/rusted away and the car will barely be running - the bmw will still drive (and look) like like a new car

you just cant compare the two, they are different classes of vehicles. i cant belive that given the option of either, you would have to think about it.

ok, that doesnt make any sense...

there are PLENTY of rusted/rotted E30S and there are more civics, but why? the majority of civics were run down into the ground, but mechanically they are good.

No matter WHAT used car it is, its reliability depends on how it was treated from day 1. I think anyone would rather pick having a 1989 civic as a daily car, over having a 1989 BMW...why? Parts are cheaper, the drivetrain itself is more reliable as well.

Keep in mind, when you buy a BMW, Mercedes as well.....everything breaks and its a fact. There is no BMW that can be compared to a civic in terms of reliability that is of the same year.

No im not saying this cuz i work at honda (in the shop), but because its true and everyone knows it.

By all means though, if you have money to blow get the 540!!

My Odyssey van has required more repairs than the 540 since I've owned them. We've had the Honda for 10 months, the 540 for just over 2yrs. And the 540 has more than twice the mileage on it.

All the Odyssey repairs were covered under warranty, but it sure is a PITA to bring it in all the time
