10or12

depends on what you want 10" will be more punchy and a 12" will give you a lower bass note

NOT ENOUGH

Have you listened to a Explode sub??. They leave a bit to be desired. You would be better off getting a small unloaded box..
Than getting a decent sub ( kicker comp VR, Alpine, Cerwin vega)
They don't cost THAT much more and if you are only using 1 Get some punch from it. A good way to look if you are using a low powered amp is sensitiveity the higer the better. It takes less to power. A good cheap sub is a JL10W0. BY JL cheap and pounds with a small amp....Good luck

placement

car audio is like an art. sub-wise; go kicker L-7 or go home. The L-7 is the Square shaped sub and its loud. Get one 12 and a descent amp and you should be louder than most dual 12 setups. Placement wise; for loudest bass push it as close to the rear seats in the middle of the trunk as possible with the sub facing towards the liscence plate (I dont know if i explained that well) basically like you have it now, just push it as far back as possible. For coolness, you can put it under the back seats (lots of work) or in the trunk facing the rear middle armrest. In E34's you can access the trunk from the back seat, so you just pull down that armrest and BOOm... you got Bass in yo Face yo
