The ones I have seen mostly on bimmerinfo.com seem to be priced around $20,000

wow! 8 grand is a steal for a clean, original car ... sounds almost too good to be true.

Pre-93, Euro means nothing other than he may have saved a few bucks bringing it over here. The power ratings, options etc are all the same. It all depends on the rarity of the color, the mileage and condition. A mint mauritius or avus blue on white interior car with 150k will get you 20g's, maybe more if you really take your time. A black or white with 180+ should go for about 15. The year doesn't seem to matter but I've never seen an 89 or 90 in the rare blues and violets so that leads me to believe the colors were not available yet. Then there are stupidly rare cars like daytona violet, kashmir interior Euro 95 Tourings (3.8 of course), that will fetch you 40 grand or more.

BigD - Interesting feedback.

What are the weak points on these cars? I have heard the 3.6 likes to leak oil??

All BMWs leak oil, especially 6'es, and especially M30 based 6'es. The 3.6 is no different from the 3.8 oil leak wise. The 3.8's are just newer so odds are they will leak less. M5 owners just learn to live with oil leaks. Mine leaked a little. A year and a half ago my enigne was rebuilt and it hasn't coughed up a drop since but it was very well done and the guy did gasket and silicone (when the gasket is designed to sit alone).

The weak points of these cars? You don't have one. Other than that, most things you need to know are here:
