94 Bimmer 325i or 97 Maxima SE?

I know you guys may be biased, but with that in mind, I'm soliciting your honest opinion.

I have about $10K to spend, and it looks like I can get a 94 Bimmer 325i or a 97 Maxima for that amount (I was also considering an 95 Infiniti J30). I do not have any particular cars in mind, but after looking at the car ads, it looks like this is what I may find for the price I have to spend.

I would like something sport, and I've always love Bimmers, so my heart wants the 325, but I am afraid of a maintenance nightmare, and I know the Maximas are supposed to be very reliable... plus I'll be getting a newer car for the same amount of money.... So it seems like the heart vs. the brain.

Any opinions or suggestions on what's best for my money (overall)... Again, I have no more than $10K to spend.

325 vs. Maxima

Both are very good cars. Performance would have to go to the BMW (especially with the Sports Pkg). Reliabilty is about the same in my opinion. Although, you will pay more for the German vehicle. Both cars have excellent 6cyl motors. Smooth and powerful. Are there any kids to be considered here??? If so, the Maxima wins that battle. Don't even bother with the over-dressed I30 (which is just a Maxima). If you want something more on the cruising side - then Maxima. For fun - you can't beat the BMW. Good luck with your decision.

P.S. I've driven both cars. My choice (no kids) 325.

My honest opinion would be to get the 325. Second choice would be the infinity. This is not a biased opinion. All i know is that the 325 e36 cars are really good overall and very little problems. Yes! you will be giving up a newer car like the '97 you were talking about, but i would rather have the bimmer. In the long run, you'll be saying to yourself "why didnt i buy a bmw" since you love them so much. maintenance will be higher on the bmw, but thats a given when buying it. A bmw is just alot more classier i think. Don't hav to agree with me on this...just my personal opinion. Good Luck!

speed wise, they're about the same, but the bmw will out-handle the nissan. I say bimmer, I believe you'll have more fun with that car.

Maxima is a sofa on wheels comparing to a 325.

stock against stock I would pick the BMW. Once you do a few little mods to the maxima (you have to get a 5spd or you are crazy) then you have a very fast car. When I was in stock condition on my 97' maxima I was running 14.8 1/4 times and the 325 would not have a chance to catch me unless we are talking auto X. Once you have a new suspension on a maxima (I have a coilover setup) then you'll take out many BMWs in the turns but never match the final capability of the m3. I really like the BMWs but for the money you can't beat a maxima. You have to decide what you want to do with the car With about 5K into my car it will take something with //M on the back to catch me (or a 540i) once my NOS system goes in this spring I will be low 13s or high 12s.

looks + stock image = BMW
mods + speed = maxima

you really can't lose with either choice

here are a couple pics of my car to show you that you can make a maxima into something nice looking.

08 Corvette LS3 // 89 325is w/ M50 swap // 06 Audi A3 (stg 2) // 07 VW EOS (stg 2) // E36 Chumpcar
