Handa Guru's

I'll be replacing the head on a 2000 Civic 1.6L next weekend.
Anyone know of DIY wrightups on them, or better yet what heads fit the 1.6L block.

thanks,

well since you have a B16, ANY b series VTEC head will work...if i were you do NOT go to a B18C1 (GSR) head as it flows the worst. Try and find a B16 or better yet, upgrade to a complete TYPE-R head. I work at honda service dept. so if u need anythin let me know, ill try n hook u up with parts as i get a fairly good discount, but where is buckingham?

if i am wrong and you have the single cam non vtec D16 then it will be REALLY cheap to do, but then if you think about all the time and money spent...you might as well slap in a lower KM D series motor in there, depending on the availability of parts...

Why are you replacing the head anyway?

Buckingham is 1/2 north of Ottawa.
It is a single cam engine with Vtec.
Reason for new head is timing belt blew and mashed the valves.
Still running but quickly self distructing.
Will be fixed regardless but was hoping would be like a VW were a 2.0L head bolts on to the 1.8L.
Looks like it's not the case for honda's 1.6L.
Also I'm ignorant to B18C1 (Gsr) B16......
I know their engine codes but do not know the difference between them.
Assuming bolting on the head is no diffrent then any other car.

no it is NO different, except you need a D series head..not B series...B series is DOHC and your SOHC. It should be dirt cheap anyhow.

Perfect now I know a D head is needed.
Was their ever a typeR D head or is this thing just going to have to stay stock.

there are only 2 options you have D16A6 Vtec head and D16Y8 Vtec head.
i would suggest the D16Y8 head because its better for the 96 and up d motors, the bottom end is much stronger.

i've done this swap many times if you have any questions just let me know
