H26, I have sent you a few PM replies.
I can get you any turbo you want including one for the td manifold. Is the td manifold modified to fit your engine already? I hope you are aware that it's not a direct bolt on manifold.

Striker, you seem to be one of the more educated m20 turbo experts on this baord. I know the manifold is not a direct fit (some of the bottom manifold bolts don't line up, but it can be drilled to fit, there may be exhaust leak if not installed properly). In terms of turbo I have no clue what I need, I am relying on the honesty of members to help guide me. Right now i am looking at a K27 turbo on ebay, because I know it cam on the 745i, but that was for the 3.5 motor, so it may be a bit too big... meaning the boost would take longer to sppol up; correct???

I've been reading e30 turbo stuff everywhere on the net and it only screws me up even more..... like when you think to hard about your golf swing.

HELP....... I getting an icecream headache

Angelo,

Thanks for your kind words, I don't think of myself as an expert, but have just about the right amount of knowledge for this application because I have done and researched it allot.
I also have one of the best turbo experts at my side who has been doing this for over 10 years and has been building turbo powered race cars.

A turbo used on a 3.5L engine will be too big for a 2.5L engine, there is a rule of thumb application as far as sizing and power goes.
This will have tremendous lag and will only produce a very small amount of boost as you correctly wrote, it will take long to spool up.

The main aspects you have to pay attention to is the type of flange the td has, I think it's a T3, and secondly sizing.

I find the Garret GT28 S is really great as it starts whistling at 1500 RPM and ready to rock at around 2500 RPM right where the m20 lacks juice.
The GT 28S is rated beyond 350 HP, it pulls right through the rest of the RPM band in a hurry and a great match for the m20.

I can confirm the td flange size and get back to you on turbo matches.

Thanks.

thanks. I'm going to look on ebay for a gt28, can you give me you pricing on one. Ebay is great but sometimes you find stuff close to the same price locally. I rather give profit to local guys than strangers on ebay.

I can let you have my personal 10 month old GT28S with less than 150Km on it for $1200 taxes in. This turbo usually sells between $ 1,350 to $ 1,500 plus taxes.
All we used this turbo for was to do some trial runs on an m20 engine. I can also work out a good deal for the matching stainless steel downpipe with flange ready to bolt on for the said turbo.

Thanks,

Ralph.
