Angry Low car meets raised Sewer

hey everyone, this really blows for me but here we go.......

While on my way to my staff party last night, just around dusk ..approx 745-8 pm... im driving down this recently paved road (Stanley Ave), towards my work.....im driving in the right hand lane and i get stuck beside a coach bus, no problem i thought i just gotta make the next right.....this not being my usual way to work i never noticed it untill it was too late, the sewer in my lane up near the curb was raised about 4-5 inches more then the rest of the road....i had nowhere else to go, this was one of those moments when all you could do was swear out loud....which i prompty did....too bad my cursing was soon drowned out by the god-awful shreak of a fibreglass Reiger bumper getting owned hardcore by asphalt and physics. Promptly pulling over underneath a streetlight i survey the damage, ya just as bad as i thought it be, the right hand side has 3 nice holes from where it was torn from its screws, it was knocked askew up to the headlights, of course it has some cracks in it now, and the bottom of it looks like it got sanded with 35 grit pavement..........

pics of the aftermath to come.....

***ATTENTION PLEASE ***ATTENTION PLEASE***
and anyone selling a bumper that will fit an 1988 e30, (all styles welcome) or someone who can do fibreglass repairs holla at me

the vent makes me feel a little better

You can make a claim with the city to reimburse you for the damages...take pictures of the grate and your car. You do afterall, pay them a fee every year when renewing your licence to keep the roads in good order.

Sorry to hear about your damages but if you make a claim into the City they at best may reimburse you for half at best. Thats all they offer most cases with good grounds so take pics and do your homework. I know I work for the City

Sorry to hear, similar thing happened to Cosmic last night, we were heading out for pub night, and were driving north on Hwy 10(Hurontario) when out of nowhere comes this 10 ft(or so it appeared) manhole cover. Loud thud came from under the car, but I believe everything is ok. Not sure what got hit, but scared the shit out of us until we pulled over and investigated.

Not sure how the city handles these things, but its better to try than to just take it. Also, the car is lowered so I dont know how they treat moddified cars compared to stock, but good luck.

a friend of mine had the same situation, but the man hole cover wasnt there... and it was just a hole. City paid for all damages.

the city is allowed 3" variance in street road heights.. if it was really 4" - 5" you can claim it as a city damage and have the cost reimbursed. you will need a receipt and photographs of course.

People make claims to the city all the time. Especially pot hole related damage like bent rims. It's worth a try.

jus to add to this, be careful on Steeles from McMurchy upto the KFC plaze and HWY 10 from Elgin to the Fire station (close to County Court), massive construction and theres raised man holes everywhere, luckily my Accord isnt lowered barely clears over them with the mugen lip its a freakin slalom course for me since i have to take those two routes no matter where i go
