It's the car that matters, if it falls apart with spot welds that don't hold and components not installed properly what good is the motor after. Other then to reinstall into say an older German built Mark II.

My Jetta wagon was made in Germany...it was a POS anyway! Quality issues include damaged paint UNDER the clearcoat, Windows transfer water to the inside, floor mat worn through after 1 year, bad glo plug(s), Wipers always leave dirt in direct line of vision, side mirrors cannot stay clean, cup launchers not holders, noisy timing belt, stupid hatch lock logic.....

no offense but ive never heard of a car comming apart with bad spot welds i mean common!
second, have you driven in a mk2 lately? creak crackle whine thats all you hear, so where its built doesnt matter, its the layout and design of the car that does.
and again, when they did make plants in mexico and brazil they still brought down many cars for many years, i think all GTi models up until around 1999 were fully german made again tho, not like it matters its the design that does

Gti's havn't been built in Germany exclusivly since 1987.
As for desighn I agree that's what makes them so great and safe.
However on having 4-5 different golfs/GTI's some German and some Mexican But distroyed them all. Stress maks rusting through Shock towers bending up and well just the regular damage you get from bouncing off of trees. In personal experience with the two Identical cars with only the assembly location being different the German versions held up 10 fold better through the same abuse (me learning rally, my first which lasted the longest was German built). The newest of the buch had the D frame rust out from Stress marks 6 months after I bought it. Never had that with the rest...just my oppinion but is the reason why I switched to BMW.

Where a car is makes some differance, but not too much. Sure it would have been better if they were german imported, but would it really make sense to import from germany cars that would compete in the "economy" class??
2 BMW's are made in redneck country too.

You're right... Sorry about that.
That previous post was my 1st or 2nd post, so I'm still getting used to the site.
You might remember me from this thread.

Was that 'ugly, but fast' car, or 'ugly-fast' car?

Emphasis on ugly, eh?
Well, since we're on the topic of beauty, be sure to tell your GF that I think she's cute (from what I saw of her at least).
... Your car is pretty fresh tho...
