WS6 Trans Am vs 540i 6/Speed

Here it goes.

Im driving down the highway doing approx 120Kmh, when I notice in my rear view mirror this white convertible Trans Am with a pretty blonde passenger barreling down in the centre lane at warp speed.
Thinking to my self there is now way on this world he was going to get in front of me. With about 1.5 car lengths between me and the car in the centre lane.
I guess I was wrong; sure enough he is in front of me. I start to mach his speed.
My wife asks me a question how hot would it be in the TA with this weather (32C) plus.
Pretty darn warm I replied.
With heavy traffic in front of us we slow down to 100Kmh.
I look at my wife and she looks at me and tells me I know you do so go and get him
Thanks as I down shift to 4th gear at around 100Kmh. I dont think I have a chance I told my wife thats a Chevy V8 lurking underneath that hood but its all for fun.
So now Im thinking to my self Im going to get my a$$ whooped.
Open road ahead I start to edge up on the TAs 5O Clock 2 car lengths back. Without warning the TA downshifts to a lower gear and goes to WOT I quickly respond.
By end of 4th gear Im even with his rear bumper, shift into 5th Im steadily gaining ground, I glance over at the TA driver he glances back with a puzzled look. By end of 5th gear I was about 2 car lengths ahead. Im impressed with the outcome. I won with 1 extra passenger and the air On

My buddy set up a drag race with a LS1 6 speed Z28 vs his 850 at the Mosport DTT skidpad. We were all quite suprised whrn the 850 finished 2 car lengths ahead. This was done twice! Now, I beat the same 850 with my 540 during another race.

Ive driven a WS6 before, They are monsters i mean real monsters, u hit it and they just pull non stop and the sound off the stock set up is amazing. They are extremely fast. What year was it? either way there biggest downfall is their weight, they are HEAVY mother fauckers. Thats most likely why you were able to get that extra advantage at the end over him, plus you reach max hp and tq faster then they do. Plus u said it was a convertable thats a heavy car with even more wieght cuz its a rag top. if that thing was on a diet it would have been all ws6. But stock for stock deff a bmw walk all over. nice one!

.

what speed did u guys get up till?
those cars r 1/4 mile junkies. so a hwy geared bimmer would probably surpass one.

ive also sat in a friends 540 6spd and raced an m3 from a roll like 120-220, and the m3 was barely faster, if that. but when they raced the m5, it pulled quite bit more, yet both Ms r low 13s. i guess once it gets rolling, even with all that weight, the hp(momentum prevails?)

I've seen some of those birds weighing 4000lbs. That is ridiculous. How much does the 540I weigh?

Keep in mind, his top was down. With the top down at higher speeds there is a lot more drag. He might as well had a parachute.

540 6/spd is actually faster over 100Kmh then an M3.

^ any reason for that? even tho 540 weighs more, but once it gets rollin, that can be negated. it has less hp, but i guess more torqy?
