im going to be doin the same thing to my car next week and Im going to be chemically stripping the paint off of it, people have told me not to leave it bare metal too long because the moisture in the air will actually make it start to rust. have you had any issues with this? It looks like u ground off the old paint?

I havent had any major problems other than what already there, if you are going to do some welding I would recommend do all of that first and than just before you start doing the body work strip it down. I had a hard time with chemical stripping cause there was 4-5 coats of paint on the body, so it was eaisier to sand it down, I didnt grind it I used 80 grit on a orbital sander.

would u recomend to sand blast the areas that have some surface rust but dont go through with a hole and the coat it with a rust inhibitor like POR or something that neutralizes it?

It all depends on how much time you want to put into it, if the metal has rotted through or it seems like it will in a couple of years than I cut that part out and weld on a new piece of metal. It can become very annoying if you have to do a lot of welding but it will be much better in the long run. With my car, once the body work is done i'm putting epoxy primer over the whole car, than working on the prep work. I'm expectiong about 180-200 hours of prep work only.

Hey 635, I also have a BMW 635csi...mines a 1985, and I went to my local junk yard and snaged two Halogen angel eye sets out of a 1993 BMW 535i I put them in and they work nice....just a little heads up if your looking for an upgrade like that since one set of 2 will cost brand new for a six series around 200-250, i bought both for 55....Just thought youd like to know about that since its a cheap and easy way to upgrade both apperance and lighting

Ya I know what you mean those bumpers are like Park Benches, the car is getting the euro touch which will shorten the lenght like 2 feet . The car is all primered and waiting for a few little parts before it gets the colour sprayed. I appreciate the positive comments and I'll post all the pics once the car has been assembled and on the road
