Yeah, I'm a bit of a hardware geek, no so much needing to have the newest stuff, but having a lot of stuff. The most CPU intensive thing I seem to do is rip DVD's. I rarely play games on my computers (aside from solitaire).
I have 7 computers in total, 5 routers, 3 switches, plus boxes of misc parts that I have 'just in case'. You never know when you need an ATi PCI rage card for no reason..... This stuff seems to come in handy though when setting up small networks for labs that I have to do at school.

At least this way we can network our skills if one of us needs someone else to do a job or what not.
By the way, I'm currently at Georgian College in the Network Specialist/Routing Technology program.

Computers are my hobby, job, and i'm at York doing a B.A. in IT but switching to Ryerson in September to do the IT-M BCOMM Co-op programme (yea sounds lengthy but is really only 4 years)
I also:
-build personal home (light/enthusiast/gamer) and work computers
-do small home networking (wireless/wired)
-clean computers (you'd be surprised how many people don't know how to get rid of spyware)
-computer repairs
I also worked for 5 months with Y2K computers
I am on my laptop almost 6 hours a day and when i'm not, i'm trying to grab parts for my desktop i'm building right now (shit specs, but i really don't have the money but need the desktop soon)
Amd Sempron 2400+
SOYO KT600 v1.0. MOBO
OCZ PC3200 1024MB DDR (Latency 2.5-3-3-7)
GeForce FX 5900 128MB
17" LG CRT Monitor
40GB Maxtor 7200RPM HDD
Logitech X530 5.1 Speakers

im a computer geek.. I use the computer for just about everything... Since I dont watch tv, think its pointless, Id rather spend time on the computer. I can read, watch tv shows, chat to friends, listen to music and much more on the computer. What a useful device.
PS!!!
for all those geeks/comp nerds,
I need a cheap good video card.
So far this is what i have
Saphire Radeon 9600 Pro Advantage 256mb DDr - $120
Saphire Radeon 9600XT 128mb DDR - $139
Saphire Radeon 9600 SE 128 mb DDR - $73
Asus A9550 GE/TD 128 bit - 128MB DDR - $86
Asus A9600 129MB DDR - $115
these all have DVI/tv out and prices were taken from Canadacomputers.com
I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO!!!!!!!!!! I am cheap so which is the absolute best card for the absolute least money.
My eyes are on the A9550, but that 9600 SE sounds just as good. And the next one after that seems to be the the Saphire 9600 Pro Advantage.
any advice would be appreciated!!!!

if your willing to spend $139, jus pitch in $30 more and get the GeForce 6200
GeForce 6800GT ($600 or less with taxes) > GeForce 6600GT > GeForce 6600 > GeForce 6200 (no more than $170 with taxes)
average price range of ^ cards...$600-$170

Was there really a need for another pong game?

for me is just a hobby more of a deal. but i do spend most of my time on this thing. it's like drugs for me, i can't go without it.
most of the money goes on the car or comp. for the last year it was for the comp. not the car. now i got all i wanted on the comp side it's time to do something with the car again!!
"only" have 2 of them tho. this one here. which i would consider my first higher end comp, always had something in the middle never the top of the line.
AMD64 3500+ / 2x36GB Raptors / 4x512MB cheap ass samsung memory (2.5-3-3-8) only $50 each stick / and few other things in it
not a big gamer tho. dont really have the time for that.
my 2nd comp is a PVR, that is connected to the TV downstairs. i built it with all the spare parts i had. except new drives and tv tuner card. and this thing is awesome. i could never again use a vcr to record tv.
