Definitely check out the Golf/Jetta III forum.

3 gas motors. The 1.8L was only available on the Golf CL. 8V = wood anyway. VR6 sounds hot. Mk3 Golfs and Jettas were available with turbo diesel engines too, but only late Jettas were available with the more advanced TDI engine.

1.8L 8V = 90 hp
2.0L 8V = 115 hp
VR6 12V = 174 hp

The 2.0L 16V was only available in the Mk3 in Europe.

my car is stock also....i went at it with a mk4 vr6...the newer style ones.

The mk4 12v's are a bit slower than the mk3 12v.
I'm thinking of picking up an e30 too sometime in the future.
