actually the best VW ever made was the special edition Mk2 AWD 16v G60 motor, with 220hp 245tq, top speed lower due to tranny but faster.

Are you sure G60?, that was 1.8 supercharged and many owners had alot of problems with them. You did say special so it must of been to be developing that much power as the G60's were pushing about 150-160 hp

Accutally the the best VW ever made is the W12 which has crazy power but for the size of the Golf the R32 would be your best bet.

you mean the corrado right? yeah well this is a mk2 golf, in europe only. they made a very small amount like 75 , 70 for the public and 5 for the managers. It is THE vw, hands down, R32 is slower and doesnt compare.

1.8L 16v with an oversized G60 charger, they made 220hp @ less boost then the stock G60. All wheel drive etc, in a 2200pound body is pretty damnfast, R32 is not the culmination of VW cars. Upgradable like the 1.8T for its time (1992) just think these motors are able to produce more then 300whp with minimal mods.
