Quickest route to Vancouver?

Yay if everything falls into place I may be driving to Van City, it's a 50/50 chance. What's the quickest route to get there?
Transcanada hwy is friggin long drive doestnt it. How about most scenic route?

What to expect as far as hotel/motel accommodations along the way, rest stops, etc?

i dunno about the rest of canada (from toronto to bc) but if you end up in Kelowna take the "Hope Prinstin" route to the outskirts of the west coast. Its is a crazy road with turns, but also fast, as long as you dont get stuck behide a convy of semi's

Look at mapquest.com it will tell you what's the best way. It would be a good idea to purchase CAA membership if you allready don't have one, it's great insurance.

The best way to get there is through the States, TO, Chicago, Minneapolis, Bismark Nort Dekota, Seattle Washingto to BC.

I drove to BC with my wife in '95. Take the trans-canada on your way there, and for sake of change, drive states side on the way back. We left on a Tuesday afternoon from Newmarket and arrived in Vancouver saturday night. We spent one night, and a lazy morning in Winnipeg, and then again stayed the night and an entire day in Edmonton. What time of year are you thinking of driving there ? If you go now, be prepared for some nasty driving conditions, especially in the Rockies. We went in early fall, and the scenery from Parry Sound, to Thunderbay was incredible.

Crazy, im in the same situation as you. My brother lives in Van and he needs his car, so i've offered to drive it out to him and fly back. We're still deciding on weather or not just to sell his car and have him buy a new one, or if i'll drive it out.

State side is good but when you hit Montana and North Dakota it's so boring...nothing but feilds...what is interesting is all the white crosses on the side of the road from people who died in car accidents..(This is going back in 92) Dunno if they are still there, at the time you had to be 14 to get your drivers license......Good trip though...

I'm doing the same thing as you, but on a motorcycle (come spring). I think the distance is like 4000km or something.

Apparently the praries are bloody boring to drive through....

That should be fun, hope you have the nice weather. I checked and Ottawa to Vancouver through the states is 3000 miles.

When you go through the northern states they have sighns that say "next rest stop/service station 150 mi"....Hope you don't run out of fuel...

I have driven across Canada about 6 times. Quickest route is through the US because you can hit the interstates. It is actually shorter as well. Although it isnt much farther through Canada, you can't drive as fast...legally
It is about 4500km to Vancouver from Toronto, either way you go, its maybe a couple hundred km shorter through the States. I have done it in 3 days and 2 nights, but I would not suggest that unless you are team driving. 4 or 5 days is more realistic, if you are going solo, but that is still 10-12 hours in the car a day.

youch! thats what I'm worried about... My R6 only gets 200km a tank on the highway... plus its brutally uncomfortable after 500km of driving...

i think i will have to buy a touring bike for the trip!
