Harddrive problem

For some reason my computer cant read my secondary hard drive although in the bios it recognizes it. When I go into 'my computer' it doesnt show up. I tried repluging the power and sata plugs but it still doesnt read it. Could my hard drive be faked. Good thing my primary drive works and all else is good with Windows but all my games are in my E drive but it doesnt show up.

Anyone have this happen to them and know what it could be. It happened once before and all i did was unplug the drive and replug it and it showed up again but this time that doesnt work.

Any help is appreciated, thanks

go into dos, from a boot floppy, and fdisk the drive, you will lose all info, but it might mount afterwards, if it turns and doesn't make wierd noises, its still prolly ok, BUT a virus could make it unmountable until you format it ( FDISK IT). if it shows in bios, it runs, otherwise your bios would hang if it didn't work properly.

ok, get a disk utility program off the net to check it over then! Also, check you bios, and make sure the drive is actually enabled in bios, your bios might have disabled it. Also, please tell me if you are using a raid setup or not?

no raid, my 80 gig hard drive is partitioned c,d and my 160 harddrive is E

I'll recheck my bios but I think it is enabled. Ill check for a utility prog. but I hope I dont have to lose over 34 gigs of games.

Thanks

ok, if it is enabled, in general bios features, and the computer doesn t hang on system check before OS boot, then the drive is operational. CHeck the jumpers on it, make sure its not on cable select, in guessing this is a slave, not a master drive, so set it accordingly, as this could be your problem too. if none of this works, then you are pretty much SOL and should rebuild the drive with FDISK, basically putting a fresh partition on it, ( the whole drive) a way to FULLY reformat it with no archives.

also, if nothing works, unplug the drive, boot, turn off, plug in and boot again.
