your going to pay 187.50 administration fee, 100 dollars a/c tax, 15% taxes, and 6.1% duty tax if the car is not made in the US, depending on the year it will require you to change over to Daytime running lights, and a third seat belt in back. You must also know that you must notify US customs 3 days in advance to bringing over the car, they have to run checks on it, make sure there is no liens on the car. If you don't do that they will impound the car for a little while.

Yup, what he said. I just picked up my 95 M3 this weekend US customs will need the ORIGNAL title 72 hrs before you bring the car over. Other than that, you need a bill of sale, and you should be good to go.

You need to check out if you are allowed to bring it in. BMW's fair quite well in this regard, but if you go the www.riv.ca site and check on the http://www.riv.ca/english/US_vehicle_admissibility.pdf link you'll see that you may have issues with a Mitsubishi Mirage.
best of luck

You can find the requirements for the double (**) on the first page. The good news for BMW owners is that BMW makes a "true" North American car so moving cars across the boarder is just all about $$'s. As for the idea "import" one of the WRC spec cars would be nice. The Pug 206 seems a nice little setup with 0-60mph times ~ 3sec, 1200Kg, 300hp, 635nm torque in a 4x4 package with the chasis setup to cope with the local crappy frost heaved roads.

thats right, you can also bring over and brand the car as a salvage I believe that way you can skip paying the 15% however the car will be branded

Nope. Still gotta pay the government

Mine is a salvage, and I had to pay GST. I need to also get an inspection ($350), then pay the PST when I register, if I choose to do so (it will be a track car). The difference is that you pay on the actual sale price instead of the red book value.

DRL, child restraint hardware, and bi-lingual airbag stickers (retarded!). BMW Canada has a whole crap load of suspension parts that are supposed to be swapped since the 95 is a bit too low. However, the inspection (at Canadian Tire) will never check that stuff ... the DRL is the big one. Mine has aftermarked suspension anyway, so it's lower than stock.
