comparing these cars really means nothing, I dont even understand why CLS55 is "made to steal the M5's thunder", i thought the E55 and M5 were in one class. So what does BMW have to go against CLS? nothing. magazines just realize the E55 is no match for the M5 so they come up with something that doesn't fit in anywhere. I realize it has four doors as well, but it wasn't made to replace the E55 so I don't consider it in the same class. I bet if BMW had a reason to make a CLS contender they could certainly do that, and probably win too "performance wise".

in my opinion, i don't really think the existence of the CLS55 AMG really threaten's M5's sells at all.

i mean, people who's going after handling will still get M5, because M5 is still ultimately better as far as handling is concern.

however, i think the existence of the CLS55 will rather steal some sells from E55 AMG. since they are both four door, luxury, stylish car that's insanely fast. Mercedes-Benz claimed they are making CLS because they realise there's a empty spot in their line-up...i wonder just what kind of magnification they were using on their telescope when they discovered that.

well, i guess in the end, more selections is better for consumers anyway.

The problem, is, the majority of drivers that have that kinda money aren't usually concerened with handling as much.

yes, i totally understand that.
and more than likely those people won't consider M5 to begin with anyway.

and that's why i dont' think CLS is so much a threat to M5. because the people that'd buy a M5 will still buy a M5. and people who value comfort more will still get an AMG. it's just that now AMG just got another new model to compete with themselves.

sure, reveiews says CLS55 handles slightly better than E55 due to its newly design steering rack. but E55 will get that shortly for 2005MY also. which should improves E55's steering feedback significantly. so i still don't quite understand Mercedes-Benz's marketing strategy.

i am not trying to say which car is better than which though. because they are different type of cars for different type of people. and i totally respect people what prefer E55 over BMW.

I also dont quite understand why they released CLS which they call a coupe?!... Which is 4 door with the same HP as E55 although its hevier couple of hundreds kgs... I went with E55 because it's comfy and instantly fast at any range of rpms... if right now there would be m5s for sale i'd probably would've get myself an m5... i'm sure it is more sporty and i think SMGIII should be alot of fun... Maybe in 2-3 years i'll get myself one... But for now I will practice on E55 hehe!
Btw i think they will fit a new steering rack on upcoming E63...
