Dealer for Repair and Maintenance?

It seems like reading the threads that a lot of people do not get their car serviced at the dealership. I've always gone to the dealers because I trust them more, and some of the non-dealer labor rates seem to be about the same. I've always gotten good service from Bavaria BMW.

Why do you go to non-dealers? Is it substantially cheaper?

Simby ... it might be different out in Alberta. In Toronto there are some certified BMW mechanics that now work independantly and charge MUCH less.

I was quoted 10 hours of labour at an independent BMW shop (well known shop too)for a job, I promptly picked up the car and went to Charlie. Got charged the equivalent of 2 hours labour.

It's all in the area, as Justin and Andrew said.

I take it to a guy that is in alymer from my house in Ottawa it is about 30 mins but its worth the drive. I have been going to him for years now. He has never srewed me, worked on four of mine and my bros BMW without a problem ever, always asks if i want to change it first doesnt tell me no presure at all, and the best part is he is dirt cheap . Dealer was always trying to screw me and labour cost was way to much.
