The i does not mean injected.
The A does not mean automatic, or it MIGHT have for a little bit but many standard cars got the A.

The A does mean automatic, the reason it says 325ix/A is because the automatic and the manual cars has the same specs, so why not just make one sticker for the door. That's why there is the slash.

i think in ur case the A just a model # or some sh!t....as long as it's not a 325ia...

i don't think 325xia's exist(ed), or 330xia's for that matter..

it was a 1997 325iA, i was checkin it out before i looked at the price tag and then jus grabbed the accord

Munichman is correct. It's the greek letter for economy. The 'eta's had the 2.7L engines, while the 'i' version had the 2.5L, more powerful version. The 'eta' produced great torque(170), which is why it was pulled from the 528 initially. The 'eta's came out in 84, while the 2.5's entered the market in 87.

Just some "e vs i" stats for anyone interested.

look at it in general. that's what it was first put on to mean. Just like how the 2 numbers at the end of bmw's usually tell you the engine, but not always like 323 is 2.5 right? just like how some iA's have manuals.

Here's how I explain it to myself:

i stands for injected, and in the presence of two or more injected motors represents the sportier motor. For example, a 325i has the M20B25, were as a 325/325e has the economy injected motor.

Superman: Of course there is such a thing.

As for the automatic issue, both my E30's have the /A on them. I take it that it is because both cars are identical except for drivetrain related parts, and we all know BMW wouldn't want to print two seperate stickers. The good part is no one will ever know my 325i came as an automatic.

That makes more sense.
