just picked up a '00 323i for about 20k after tax...a BMW mechanic friend who inspected it was surprised that it wasn't being sold for 25k...so thereabouts might be your range

323ci - 170bhp
325ci - 184bhp

The 325ci replaced the 323ci.

Sorry but the 323ci's (E46) had 184HP as well.......same as the 325CI. Only difference is the numbers changing with the years (325 being the newer one). Other than that the differences are small (fromt bumpers a little different etc). Overall they are almost the same car with some minor changes. I worked for BMW so I can verify these facts. Hope this helps. Cheers,

Brad

Sorry but 323ci or i, have 170HP not 184HP. 323 does 0-100KM/H in 8.0 sec where the 325 does it in 7.6 sec. The 323 has more torque than the 325 though. I have a 323ci and i got the fact sheets printed in 2000 by BMW Canada and those are the numbers indicated in there.

They have the same engine, 323 was detuned but any programming or mods for a 325 work on a 323 the same. Was for marketing purposes only, buying time till the 328 came out.
Vw did the same with their 1.8T's 150 hp while the vr6 had 184 for 3g's more.
Funny how then they could be easily tuned to 180 while the vr6 couldn't.
Then all of a sudden the vr6 became cheap and the 1.8t went to 180hp for the GTI's

Wow, I apoligize, I was wrong......it IS 170hp. I thought it was 170 on my 323 (E36) and 184 on the E46. I did some research and I was wrong. Doh......

According to Bimmer magazine (2000 issue), the 323 is similar to the 325 except it has upgraded rims, and M3 style rocker panels, and some other relatively smaller modifications. When I get home, I can check the magazine and reply.
