Lightbulb MCO (Ottawa) AutoX for newbies, Oct 16

The MCO (Motorsport Club of Ottawa) will hold a SOLO II (Autocross) event specially for people who always wanted to try to AutoX but .....

copy of the invitation to the "Redliner" folks.

Gauging interest

We’ll not really just for Redliners but I was thinking of hosting an event focused on introducing people to the sport. I know a lot of you have wanted to try Autocross (Solo II) but have either been too intimidated or don’t want to get up that early on a weekend.

The event would be hosted by the Motorsport Club of Ottawa, start around 11AM –12PM and would have mostly new people attending.

All runs will be electronically timed to the 100th of a second. You can test your skills out on the course, get free instruction from experienced autocrosses and hold grudge matches.

Entry fees will be lower (about $25) and helmet rentals will be free.

The date would likely be Saturday, Oct 16th and it would be held at the Corel Center.

If anyone is interested please reply to this thread or email me at chuck@turningpointracing.com

The course will be very simple and everyone will have access to an experienced Solo driver to ride as a passenger/navigator/instructor. Also, the regulars will be running the event on the condition that they have a passenger in the car for every run.

more info on this link.

Very. Very. Very cool. Let me talk to The Boss and I'll get back to you on this.

P.S. You missed a beautiful ride, on the 26th!

I know, I have heared it was a super day.
I could not go on the cruise because of a SOLO II event that got postponed to the 26th and I could not miss that one because of the championship.
I missed the last SOLO II event this past sunday because I was at Watkins Glen for three days at a BMW Performance Driving School. ... tough choices, I am telling you!

Hope to see some BMW's at that SOLO event! Btw, if you participate you can get rides with me ... or other cars ... but would'nt you rather drive with the fastest car on track?

Klaus

I wouldn't have it any other way!

I was wondering, if I bring my 8 year old son, can he be in my car also, when I'm on the track? It'll bring up my times but I don't expect to be competitive anyways.

To go out on the track with kids, I believe the age limit is 12 or 14. I am not sure, but I think 8 is to young. However, since this is a special event, maybe we can make an exeption. Bring him along anyways, it's not going to be an all day event anyways.

You certainly can, your G1 license is good enough, any car is good as long as it is a safe car that will not fall apart or leaks fluids all over the place. A securly mounted battery is important and nothing loose in the car or the trunk (speakers, amplifierers, etc would have to be removed if not mounted safely).

Great, thanks. I'll bring him along for sure (he's a car nut) and we'll see if he can jump in or not. He's a big and strong kid, though. He looks like he's 11 even if he's just 8.

let me confirm this with the organizers to make 100% sure, but I think the g1 restriction will not apply here.

kw

actually, the idea of this event is to have experienced Solo II drivers drive with you and teach you the lines and tricks in this sport, therefore you will have a passenger with a G license with you anyways.

you can either leave it with me, (I gather the information from this board), or send an email to our organizer chuck@turningpointracing.com
or just show up

it's better if we know aproximately how many people will show up so we know how to prepare for this.

See you there

Klaus
