i think on this board people were talking about it...because the insurance companies still consider you 'high risk' if you have infractions

yup. points really mean nada.

If you have 1 ticket on your record you are fine, but when you get 2 (even if BOTH are for 0 points) your insurance company is going to boost your rates.

when you go they will offer you a plea bargain. DONT ACCEPT IT!
plead not guilty. If the officer is not there, you get off. If he is there, plead to the judge that you are sorry, its your first offense, and that this ticket has changed your driving habits (basically beg for your life). I have a buddy that has escaped 17 tickets this way (and 12 of those were for speeding).

I asked my friend when i first got the ticket (end of august) to ask his dad (a lawyer) what are my chances of getting it reduced to no points. He said it didnt look good because 1) I am a male, teenage driver, 2) I was going 34km/h over the limit, 3) the time of day i got it (just after midnight, on my birthday too) 4) because i was driving a bmw, and the cop probably thought i was some asian street racer.

Oh and has anyone tried to send someone else in your place to say that you are unable to make it and ask to get it rescheduled? I heard you can do it twice. Does anyone think this is a good strategy?

I've actually had a few tickets.... no points and my insurance hasn't gone up a penny

I guess it depends on the insurance company.

I got my first ticket, in your opinion, should I plead bargain down to 0 points or gamble to be not guilty in the trial? It sounds like from your comment that the first ticket doesn't affect the insurance anyways.

Thanks.
