Driving without rear bumper illegal ?

Im gonna be taking my car into the bodyshop soon to get some stuff done and I really need to get it done. However, I need my car to get me around and I have no other car.

So, Is it illegal to drive without my rear bumper? even if i have the rebar and rear plate still on ? Im guessing it'll be about a week of driving without a rear bumper.

thanks in advance!

pretty sure it is illegal since you car considered unsafe.

i saw an accident where a guy ripped of his front bumber cover.
Cop told him that he CAN NOT drive his car without a bumper and that he has to tow it.

Just rent a huynday accent, dont risk it.

ummm im pretty sure you can drive with a re bar.. because that is a bmw's bumper however you have a new one(as in not an e30 with just a rebar and cover)... just be honest... if you get pulled over say yah its in for paint and i need to drive
say its not anything different, its not any less safe the piece missing is just a cover. what can they say no its not and that the cover will save your life in an accident .. doubt it not even the most unreasonable cop out there would ticket you for that...

As EuroSpectacle said ...

I believe you can drive with your rear reinforcement bar on ... the rear bumper cover has nothing to do with safety only for cosmetic purpose.

once along time ago, i lent out my friend my car without a bumper but instead i had installed a 2x8x4ft pressure treated wood and he got a ticket in down town toronto. all he had to do showed up in court and told the judge that it wasn't his car and got off instantly about 30 sec. on the stand. and then i got a letter in the mail from ministry transportation to take my car to their safety inspection shop, so i called them up and told them that i already sold my car as is and they erase it off their log. and that was the end of that. then i put the real replacement bumper back on and the car was back on the road again.
