The single mass flywheel is about 1inch thick. The dual mass flywheel is about twice that.

thanks.
is that the only difference?. Since the bendix dosent mesh i was thinking that maybe the teeth on a auto may have been different since that is what the engine was bolted to.

Autos dont have flywheels... they have a drive plate bolted to the TQ converter.

I am using a flywheel and discarded the torque plate. I was only asking becasue the flywheel teeth and starter dont line up. Any ideas?. Or should i take both parts to a dealer and see what they say

Seems to me you need a starter from a manual e30... just a guess based on common sense, you might come to another conclusion on your own....

if the ring gear isn't 1 peice with the flywheel you can just get the starter ring gear from the dealer, that is the gearing teeth around the flywheel, just heat up the ring gear and it should come off

well i did try asking about a manual starter. Before i had mine rebuilt. they told me there was no difference in them from 87-91 with a 2.5. I would not have wasted money on a rebuild.

New starter ..was the problem. I will ahve it running by the end of tommorrow. I am putting the engine back in tonight. I postponed the paint for a week to fix this problem. So i should be putting the kit on and getting it painted in the next week or so. I am hard at it again. I should be able to drive it in the new few days.

That's great news, man. Will all the blood, sweat and tears (and cash!) in that car, it must be a great feeling to be so close to the goal. It wasn't an easy job. All my respect goes out to you. And keep us informed!
