330 vs 328

I have a 1999 328i right now and I've been having problems with it lately. I'm thinking of getting rid of it and getting a 04 330ci. Obviously it will cost more so what I want to know is if you guys think it will be worth it. My only beef with the 328 is I've had a million little problems since I got it 13 months ago and it only has 90 000 km's on it. 99 was the first year for the e46 so I figure thats why there are so many problems, is the 04 a more reliable car?

do you really feel the extra hp, I got 193 right now and the 330 is 225. When you look at the 0-60 its not much faster at all...i ThINK 6.7 TO 6.4 FOR THE 330

1. Is your 328i a steptronic or 5-speed? Will you be getting a steptronic or 5 speed for next car? The reason I ask is because I went from 328Ci (2000) Steptronic to a 330Ci 2003 (5-speed) and the acceleration (0-60) and (above 130km/hr) is much better.

2. If you can leave with your car for another 1-1.5 years, the next generation (E90) 3-Series sedans will be coming out around Fall 2005 as a 2006 Model. Its all depends on how long you are planning to keep your next car.
There will be more horsepower/torque for the same 330 engine.

But the next generation coupes (E90) will not be out till Spring 2006.

328 > 330

Seriously, drive one. You'll see what I'm talking about.

My car is 5 speed, I would probably rather wait till the new 3's are a year + before buying it ...I don't want a first year model

I use to own a 99 328i and I was concerned about switching to the 04 330Ci.

But after I drove one with an M sport package, WOW! It was unbelievable! Take one for a spin and you will be suprised. It's an amazing machine!

Okay. Going from 5-speed 328 to 5-speed 330 (2004) may not be a big acceleration jump as it was for me coming from Steptronic but you will still notice the difference.

The next big question you need to answer is if you are planning to mod your new car. Things like, suspension, CAI, chips, pulleys etc. If you are, then just get base 330 sedan or coupe.
You may have heard that car insurance companies are getting tough on moddified cars. You can still mod the car, but if you don't disclose all modifications to your insurance company, they can deny your claim if you get into an accident.

If you are planning to keep your new car as stock as possible, then I strongly recommend one of the following:

1) My first choice: 330 with M Performance edition ($56,450)
2) Second choice 330 with M Sport package ($54,900)

The much firmer suspension on M-Sport package over normal Sport suspension is worth extra money big time. Plus you will be getting lots of front & rear spoilers, sports seats etc if you opt for this package.

>>> Dont forget you can change from Black Aluminum Cube to Silver Aluminum Cube trim for free as part of one of the above packages/editions.

Have fun
