The weight difference is huge. The 1/4 times I have seen leave the e34 m5(3.6) almost a full second slower than an E36 m3.
I had a run the other night (friend was driving my car) with a stock e36 m3(another friend of mine). The m3 had a much better launch, but after that it was almost dead even acceleration. I figure that if I was driving I would have gotten a much better launch since I know the car well, but the m3 would still edge me out.
