Get a body kit so there are no steel or rubber bumpers... 17" wheels, airride suspension, paint it blue, black or red, take the chrome off it, tint windows. Anything performance wise is gonna cost you an arm and a leg since e30 engines are hard to get any HP from anything but a turbo or engine swap... a chip might give you a bit more torque and let you take the RPM higher.

Agreed I would never paint my car blue and the air ride is a terrible idea, to much weight for th pumps and crap

uh, a turbo isnt gonna set you back an arm and a leg. maybe a finger or two, but not an arm and a leg. especaly compared to the cost of your "mods" -17" wheels, body kit, airride suspention (wtf?)

i dont cruze this board much, so forgive me if your joking. cause i realy hope you are. but it sounds to me that your idea of "mods" are things that will slow a car down.

my turbo setup cost me 1,800 dollars. thats a spit in the creek compared to wheels, tires, custom paint and an air ride suspention.

christian: what are you interested in? strait line performance, road course, auto x, or show car stuff?

I'm pretty happy with how my e30 turned out (exterior wise) Its a 87 325iS so it is the same body style as your 318i, and it also once had the big ugly aluminum bumpers.

I've done extensive work to it, including: full later style plastic bumper retrofit, Rieger Infinity front lip, e36 328iS sideskirts (modified) e36 M3 lower rear bumper (highly modified, bonded/molded to the rear e30 bumper) etc.

Oh and before anyone makes any wise cracks about my "unpainted body kit"

A: Its not a bodykit, it was completely custom fabricated by yours truely
B: Car is going into the bodyshop for a complete respray (lachssilber) in 2 days.

very nice, glad to see you are sticking with the lachssilber metalic...I love the salmon silver on e30's

But on to the topic at hand....don't listen to greg_84...unless all you are into is a nice looking show car...and e30's are not as hard as he said to get power out of....getting rid of the chrome bumpers is a definite yes, but keep the chrome kidney grill, and definitly do not go air ride suspension...I don't know where that came from , and performance stuff is not that expensive for e30's either.
