318i make good used cars?

A 1996 318i automatic trans with 180000km caught my eye but this being my first venture in german cars i was wondering how do bmw hold up with this kind of mileage(if it was treated right)? does the car still has some life into it?
Any advice when buying used bmw's would be greatly welcomed

the mileage will be just fine- but the 318 auto is a bit of a painful beast. a 318 5spd is great on gas, and decently quick, but a 318 auto will require a ton of steppin in the pedal to go anywhere which will hurt its fuel efficiency...

try to find a 5 spd!

I second that.

My 5spd 318is w/ 146k miles on the clock runs damn near like new and pulls harder than a heavy car with a 1.8L should. I recommend a 5spd greatly.

not nearly as nice. but if you're basing your decision on the sound of the car, leave bmws alone and go buy a honda.
