Unhappy weak electrical system

Does anyone else in an e36 suffer from a weak electrical system? My lights always dim, and my bass amp doesn't seem to put out as much as it did in my old car. Im only bushing around 850w total. Is it our alternator or is my battery just weak.

MIKE

Yea, go fer a new battery since you'd probably need one anyways, and they're not that expensive.

a new battery obviously wont hurt.... but if your lights are dimming, i'll bet you anything its your alternator. You should probably start there...

cuz correct me if I'm wrong, but doesnt the alternator power all the electronics once the car is running? battery is last resort for power...(and to start the car of course)

That is NOT true. The battery is still providing cycling power, especially at idle. I'm willing to bet money a new battery will solve the dimming.
