Would 205/40/17 be the correct tire size for an E30?

or is it to small

205 is pretty narrow.

215/40/17 is good for a 17x7 or 7.5 wheel. You should only run 205 if the offset of the wheel wont allow for a larger width.

ok thx, aside from being a bit narrow, would the outside diameter(or Circumference or watever) be within limits? Speedo wont be off?

205/45/17 is 24" which is the perfect diameter for an E30. I always use www.tirerack.com to find the proper size and then click on the specs of that tire you want to make shure it is with in 3% plus or minus of your stock diameter.

thx i found a alittle program
Tire Size Program

185/65/14 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -205/40/17

Tire Diameter (inch): 23.47 - - Tire Diameter (inch):23.46
Tire+Wheel Radius (inch): 11.73 Tire+Wheel Radius (inch): 11.73
Tire Circumference (inch): 73.73 Tire Circumference (inch):73.69

its 0.05 of an inch smaller, but i dont think it will make a big diff in the speedo
