just bought an e28

wussup guys,

I'm new to this club, and since this is my first post, I guess its only proper to introduce myself.
I recently bought a 1984 528e, and im new to the BMW world. However, im somewhat experienced with RWD because I also have a 92 nissan 240sx.

anyways...

the only problem I seem to have with the e28 is the fact that I cant get it into reverse properly, and sometimes not at all.
Ive been searching about this topic for the past couple days, and ive read about problems with the shifter plate...
Well, if any of you guys could help me out, with anymore info on this problem, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hey

I get the same shit sometimes in my ride.... did u try puting into 1 then 2 and the revers... that works for me...

alright, heres the breakdown:

the shifter can move around in gear, however, it will stay in gear provided I hold it in that gear.

my question is, what can I do to make it stay in gear, where it cannot move around while in gear?
what do I need to replace? bushings?

sorry for such a newbie question

any help is greatly appreciated...
