If it has no cuts or holes and you are thinking of this only to get rid of that yellowish color, I suggest you wiipe it with varsol and use all kinds of polish before going to the route you mentioned since I heard you need to move the tent to put the 'glass' back on. Also if you will be replacing look for those zipper ones.

What do you mean next to nothing? Also, would you mind typing the instructions down here so that someone else can use it in the future?

On my 88Ic the rear window has a jipper...
WEll there is a chrome piece on the outside and one on the inside to hold the jipper band together...
from inside the car on the bottom of the window is the chrome metal piece and it is attached by 4 spikes coming from the outside metal piece.
bind the 4 spikes straight and then go outside and pull on the chrome piece and it comes apart.
then undo the jipper all round the window...
My neighborhood shoe repair man is going to cut a plastic to the size of the BMW Piece and put back the zipper to it..
Then i just have to jip it back on...
I will get back next week and i will post the results....

Nice to see you're saving so much cash! $400 for a sheet of plastic. Wow.
