When I installed my OEM chrome tips I lubed them up Soap and water on the inside of the tips. I then used a rubber headed hammer to push them all the way in. To push them in I used a piece of thick wood wrapped in a towel and hammered them in place. The wood wrapped in towel will not damage the chrome tips. It's a pretty easy install even though I probably confused you.

Just take a rubber headed hammer, put a cloth in between the hammer and tips and just knock them in.
