I would like to lower my car, but not too much as I don't want any camber wear on my tires and don't want to do any camber adjustment at this moment. Also to save money I'm hoping to only change the springs. I sold my e46 and should be picking up a e36 next week, and I really don't know anything about them. Any advice would be great. Any thoughs on H&R sports? Also I hope to put a set of 17" e46 stock sport rims and tires, should I be concered about rubbing.

i dont really think you should be worried about rubbing. even with H&R Race, ive seen plenty of people get 18's to fit without rubbing. Im running H&R Sports right now with 18x8.5 rims, and im not rubbing, so you should be fine.
