How do the thermostat temps work.

My car was from ATL which is crazy hot. Would this explain why it never warms up?

A thermostat senses engine temp. and controls coolant flow through the radiator.It basically reduces coolant flow when the engine is cold and increases when the engine is hot.When the thermostat is closed,the coolant doesnt circulate through the radiator.....instead it goes around the block,head and intake manifold untill the engine becomes warm opening the thermostat and letting the coolant get to the radiator.

Actually i see alot of 180 or 195 but newer cars have higher ratings.

when i went to buy mine there was 2 choices ,160 or 180 i guess thats it for the m10......

I've got an 88 degree C thermostat, and it gets the car up to operating temp within 5-10min in the coldest of weather, and keeps it perfectly at the halfway mark on the guage.
