BMW sales declining?

I was concerned that BMW's sales were going to take a hit with the 'Banglized' styling over the past year or so.

Guess it could also have something to do with some stiff competition BMW's facing from the likes of Merc, and Infinity.

IMO,BMW is dominating Mercedes and the new 5 series will hurt BMW sales.I also dont understand how that chart works.....

It's a recession. According to my dad, who works at DVNT Toyota, After Sep 11, 01, no one wanted to travel, so they got cars instead, so 01, 02 and little of 03 were hot years for car sales. Now, since everyone is in brand spanking new cars, they will not be in the market for another year or so. Or if you are like me, who generally keeps the car until it dies, we won't be in the market until 2007 or so.

Bangle's designs have grown on me. The BM's design is very contemporary and up to date. You see how a 1990 car looks outdated in 2000? But a 1995 (like the e36) still looks half decent today, even when approaching it's 10th birthday? I think the BM's designs will have a "half decent looking" life for more than 15 years, since the design is so ahead of the time.

The new 5 series will help BMW sales IMO. It's a nice new look. But interestingly enough, I haven't seen anyone drive one here in Edmonton yet. They are expensive.

I still hold the position that the new 5 series won't sell as well as the older E39's.
Guess time will tell.

Yeah the design is ahead of its time and that the problem. People are afraid of change reasons why:
1. Uncertainty, fear of what the future will bring.
2. He/she embraces traditional ways and not modern ways.
3. Some people just don't like change.

I don't really understand the chart either, but it could be what that person said about band economy. BMW is getting good competition from Audi and Volkswagon -- the detunned Audi too, correct?

I wonder the same thing about the z8, x3. I've seen few z4s but many z3s. same goes for the m roadster.

I've seen one new 5er in all of Calgary, even after driving around downtown during rush-hour 5 times recently, so...

I agree about BMWs costing way too much for what you get, unless you don't really mind the fact that you're paying for the fact that it's a european car.

Most people are gonna jump on me and say they are priced accordingly, but I'm sorry $60,000 for a mid range 6 cyl sedan is a bit ridiculous... Especially in Alberta where we all drive trucks because we all USE THEM. Seriously, I'd love to have an E46 daily driver in my garage, but for the silly amounts of money they want for a 330? Never as a new car will one reside in my garage.

*just waits for someone to try to justify the extremely expensive cost of BMW sedans*....

The fact is we pay some $20,000 for the BMW roundel... In a 330 that is, as you get higher up the ranks, you pay more and more for it.
