Diff. Bushing

Today I replaced my tore up diff. bushing with a new one from a 99 M Coupe. It looks to be a lot befier. After getting a quote from the Dealership of $400 to replace the bushing, I figured f*** that... I am going to do the my own work. I was able to get all the parts (new bushing, new drain/fill plugs, gasket, and machine costs) for under $100 (big thanks to Jonathan Chan for the OEM parts :up: ).

Suspension stuff is so much fun to work on. The rears are a piece of cake. Remove the strut bolt and sway bar link and the rear trailing arm drops down far enough for you to yank the spring out. The fronts are a little more work but it sure I fun. A buddy and I installed m3 springs on his cabrio in less that 2 hrs.

how much are those springs and how is the ride ? andy good or is it ruff ??

I have Ground Control Coilovers with Koni shocks (single adjustable). The ride is much much stiffer than stock but not rough. The stiffer ride is much worth the unbelievable handling.

Why didn't you just soda blast the old diff cover? Or is this way cheaper to replace the bushing? What brand/grade of gear oil did you use?

And where is the LSD?

Looks good though.. i like the bit of shinny under the car, did you clear coat it or is it just bare aluminum?

The only reason I used a "new" cover was so I could get the bushing pushed out ahead of time so I didnt have to 1) take the old cover off 2) clean it 3) Go to the machine shop...

The diff. cover that I used looked like my old one but I used a wire brush and castrol super clean. So, yeah, it is bare aluminium.

There isnt LSD. 1991 318iC's came stock with open 4.27.
