Battery acid everywhere...

alright, last night just by chance I opened up my battery compartment in the trunk, and it was covered in liquid, I grabbed some baking soda, and sure enough it was battery acid, covering everything, even the cover over the compartment! WTF....I just bought this battery 2 months ago, I checked all the caps on the Bat and they were all tight, I checked the voltage from the alternator, it was alright . It took me almost 2 hours to clean that stuff up, cuz the bolts on the battery tray were so corroded from the acid I couldn't get them out. so what could cause a battery to leak like that? any ideas? Thanks
