Classicial music does help for me. Especially if your cramming for a mid-term or exam and you feel like going insane, that's when classical music helps.

I can only listen to trance/hiphop/alternative/rock if I'm doing homework problems.

But in terms of classical stuff I don't have any personal favourites, I just listen to whatever I can get.
www.digitallyimported.com actaully has a streaming server for classical music.

Just put on some easy listening like CHFI or something.
You can't be playing a CD or on Winamp because you'll be constantly changing tracks or CD's. Radio or streaming is the way to go.

You'll know your concentrating when you don't hear the music unless you remember- hey, music is on. It's also good to take a pause to listen to a good song when one comes on.

I think music is good because it prevents you from thinking about 2 things at one time, which is a concentration killer.

No rap or white trash. I read something about the tones they use really screw with your brain. Rap distrubs thought, trash distorts thought.
Also, Daily Planet did an experiement- kids who learned to play musical instruments did better in school than kids who didn't.
