i don't think that cops should have under cover cars unless it is for sting operations. otherwise every police car should be marked with lights on the roof

I'm all for it to be out there. We have it here, if you don't drive like a retard, you're fine.

And no, they do not need to be in the vehicle, and here in Calgary they have a brilliant way of setting them up. On the backs of speed change signs etc.

The most commonly known speed trap is the near permanent van in the CBC parking lot on Memorial. It sits there, and catches so many people it's not even funny.

I don't know why people are getting so mad because they can't speed like morons anymore. If you want to speed at absurd speeds, go out on the highway where your radar detector won't help you even if there is a cop shooting radar. Honestly I'm tired of hearing my friends and family bitch and whine about getting tickets for speeding. Every single photo radar camera here in Calgary is setup to take a photo at over 8km/h over the limit. It takes 3 pictures of you, one of the driver, one of the plate and one of the "vehicular scene" so that they know if you're passing and whatnot. They won't really ticket you unless you're going 13+ over the limit, so keep your pants on. If you're reasonable about it you're fine, you don't even get demerits, so be thankful it's not a real cop.

*flamesuit and end rant*

Edit - Oh, and we have completely unmarked personal vehicles permitted for running radar/laser etc. Including a 2003 Z06. I wasn't ready for that thing to pull me over, I tell you...

I'm assuming you drive some crappy K car, with less then 60hp thats not capable of speeding!
Look the point is, speed limits are GAY (for the most part), if they wanted to catch speeders as a means of ACTUAL SAFETY, then fine, but the fact that they're doing it as a source of income is bullshit!
People don't buy cars like M5's and stuff like that to accelerate to the speed limit , they buy cars to have fun with them. Now i'm not saying that people should do 150km/h through a school zone, but i mean c'mon, half the tickets we recieve are bullish anyways, JUST ASK MIGUEL!

I think the photo radar wont hold up to well, i'm not sure how it works exactly, but how would it manage to catch the actual person driving the car? At which point the ticket is pretty much useless, NO?!

McGuinty is a PIG FAKER DELUXE!
I hope he jumps infront of a fakin bus!

Thats not photo radar...that just regular radar...photo radar is when the put machines that record ur speed and licence plate and they mail u a ticket...its easy to get out of those...just go to court and tell the court to prove who was driving...thats the same way to get out of red light cameras, just ask the court to prove who was driving..i know this because a opp officer told me

Actually, my primary vehicle is entirely capable of exceeding it's 220km/h speedo and has done it before.

I've had my share of stupid fast driving, and will never do it again in Canada. In the US on the highway where I can get away with murder, may be a different story.

And by the way, the newer cameras take a picture of the driver aswell, if it looks like you, take a hike, cause you're screwed.

Ask me, I know. I got 3 pictures not long ago in the mail. One of me driving, one of my vehicle, and one of my plate.

By the way, Soldomatic, my primary car has more than double the displacement of your car. So I wouldn't be so ready to jump the gun and say that I drive a K-car mister "I'm hot ****" Oh, and mine has 3.92 gearing, from the factory. And no, it's not a muscle car

I heard one positive side about it today on the news.

With the traditional radar, the cop would pull u over, give u a ticket and u would get demerit points.

But with the photoradar, it just takes a picture of ure car, and sends the ticket to ure house.
So here, they would be giving the ticket to the car, instead of the driver, and so they wouldnt know who to give the demerit points to!!!!

They're looking to change that here with the new cameras, so I wouldn't expect it to take long for it to hit Ontario if you guys get them again. So yes, it will affect you, instead of just being a cash cow. That's the whole point behind the attempt to change it here, make it a legit reason to give tickets.

The new cameras will not get those with any window tint. They would have to make a law saying not tint. No camara would be able to say for sure it was me in the car. My tint is legal but I am sure that would change if camera tickets became the norm( radar or redlight). Did you notice that the goverment openly says that it is a source of income? If not this it would be some other tax that people will bitch about. A certain level of taxes is going to happen (or programs like this) or the nice level of living you all enjoy in Canada would not exsist. So many poeple take for granted what they get for free. The taxes and things like this pay for those so called free things. Some of you may be too young to remember but the goverment cut income taxes huge!...the next year we had the GST ..it is all the same level of taxes increasing marginally every year desquised as different things. So why bitch and whine

If photo radar means less of those speed traps on the 407 and 400 highways, then I guess itís okay. Look on the bright side, you donít loose demerit points like speed traps. Itís still a money making eventÖ

On a similar note, I have to get a Nissan Path Finder like in the photo with the rear spear tire.

Iíve marked in blue the angle at which you can read the license plate (bottom of the plate even). If the camera is mounted on top of a van for example, the angle is too great and youíll just sap a picture of the rear tire. It does matter how far back the picture is snapped as well.

Even better is, the 407 cameras. They are mounted so high, that they cannot snap the license plate on a pathfinder. I know someone whoís been traveling the 407 for 3+ years and has never received a bill. Itís perfectly legal because thatís original equipment on the Pathfinder.
