Ok I need to know what are the cheapest insurance companies right now. My insurance co has been raping long enough and I'm tired. Anyone got hook-ups, family members, friends that are brokers??

My recent phone conversation with allstate and state farm (yes, they were pretty much exactly the same conversations)

Me: Hello, I would like to get a quote for auto insurance?
Guy/girl: Sure...How old are you?
Me: 19
Guy/girl: We currently do not have competitive rates for your age group.
Me: Why not? You will charge me an arm and a leg anyways competitive rate or not? You are saying you don't want my business?
Guy/girl: exactly.
Me: You ****ing discriminating ****, i'm going to make sure everyone I come in contact with will never do business with your company- *click*

Call with RBC

Me: Hello, I would like to get a quote for auto insurance?
Girl: Sure, can I have your postal code blah blah...
Me: (gives all relevant information- age, licence, tickets etc.)
Girl: What car do you want to insure?
Me: A 1986 Volkswagen Cabrio.
Girl: Hold on one second.....
Girl: The best quote I could get was $4200, plus tax.
Me: Your joking, that is more than what the car is worth.
Girl: That is the best quote.
Me: I have a G licence. This should mean I am just as qualified to drive as others with a G licence. I have also done high performance driving school within the last year.
Girl: That doesn't matter.
Me: Geez, with that rate, I can total the car 5 times and not be out of the hole. Thanks for your time.

The best quotes are online. From Kanetix.com...and it usually pops up TD Insurance. Avoid human contact from insurance as much as possible.

That is an amazing rate for your age and the car your driving. Who is your broker?

Bart,

Call or go to all banks. I have heard some really good quotes from them...(Toronto and Niagara Falls have to be the worst for auto insurance in Canada).

Dave

BTW - I'm paying $87.63/month for my '89 Volvo 240DL winter beater and $70.16/month for my '88 325e (not appraised yet...and going to regret it when I do) with State Farm.

Damn, insurance is expensive on the mainland!

I'm 23, and pay 1400 a year for full coverage on my 88 M3 and 89 325is, and the M3 had been appraised for 25gs, and the 325 for 12gs. I;m glad I'm not in Toronto!

damn, now that's NICE !

I've heard that with insurance rates these days, 25% of drivers out there don't even have insurance, they say they're just paying to have a valid insurance card, that's it.
