Damn, the 323is is out of commission......

Well today I am driving along and all of the sudden The car went out of gear and I tried putting back in and it wouldn't go into any gear. The clutch goes in and can be fully depressed without stifness or anything, the shifter will not go into an gear......
What the hell is going on, I had it towed to my mechanic and he said it may be the disc inside the clutch......
Any guesses guys? I doesn't sound like the clutch is gone or is it?
Jay

Clutch is hydrolic, so if a line is broken or leaking it wont work, just like a snaped clutch cable, but in that case you would see fluid under the car...

Yeah forsure. I will let you know, I have a few things tomorrow I wanted to install, like my brushed aluminum gauge rings and M3 Mouldings.

If the Clutch plate is broken like the Mechanic says it will definitely not
let you put your car in gear. Its like having your car running in neutral and trying to select a gear. If you know how a clutch pressure plate and friction disc work you will know why.

Well, it was the clutch plate, it was split right in two.........My mechanic also replaced the flex disc as well.
$900 with labour...........

The clutch feels a lot different now, it pops up very quick and not as stiff as it used to be. I will have to get used to it. As far as the clutch is in good running order.

Jay,

Guy the same thing happend on the MX6 back in the day...the clutch got real stiff and then it just wouldn't go into gear...

You should have seen the thing, the whole plate was in 2 pieces...they were baffled...so we got it replaced under warrenty...that was the 1st out of 2 times the clutch went

Well, it's been replaced now, but at the time, the car would not go into gear with the clutch in or depressed.......Had to get it towed to the shop.

Similar thing happened to my buddies car. You couldn't switch gears either... so we put the car in 4th gear (while it was off)... started the car and pushed it down the road until there was enough speed to start driving it (probably not good for the clutch).

It was very late at night on a country road.. so we just drove the car straight to the mechanic without stopping....

We were debating 3rd, or 4th gear, but we had to hit the highway so 4th gear it was.
