which LSD ratio do I have?

Hey,

I just picked up a 1994 325is, with LSD. I can't seem to find any specs on the car, that are specific to the 1994 ... anyone have a good sight with e36 specs, like weight, hp, gear ratios, etc?

What LSD ratio comes on these?

you can always check by 2 ways.

Jack up the car and....

1)check the diff for a plaque on the side of it with the ratio stamped on.
2)if no plaque, mark & turn the driveshaft and count how many rotations it makes until the tire completes one fully. (they should both be rotating in the same direction).

From what I know, all e36 325's have a 3.15 diff, LSD was an option, so not everyone has it. The 95 M3 also has a 3.15 diff, but it is an LSD.

If that's true, 328 got ripped. Sure would be nice to have that option still.

BMW didn't offer LSD because of the ASC, it sort of acts like an LSD by braking the spinning rear wheel. And the chose the 2.93 instead of the 3.23 gear ratio (M3) because if they did there wouldn't be a whole lot of acceleration difference between the 328 and the M3. It gives the 328 better fuel economy too.

Yes, it's a 5-speed. Thanks for the info, guys! Is there a website where spec info like this exists in one place? It would be nice to have a resource like that to turn to, including things like weight, and tranny gear ratios.

What cars did the 3.46, 3.64, 3.73 ratios come in?

automatics didn't have an option of LSD (as far as I know).

ScotcH
E36-wise, I don't think any of the ratios in question were available. I do know that the E28 535is had a 3.46LSD (which will fit the E30 chassis)... not sure about the 3.64. The E30 325i came with the 3.73.

Randy 3.91 is LSD and it is only from automatic 325/328.

ScotcH, none of the ratios you listes came standard on E36 BMW.

You can get 3.38 LSD from Automatic 96+ m3
or 3.91 LSD from automatic 325/328 (but this is too much)

Or get a custom built 3.46 ( but this is money)

e36 came only with 2.93, 3.15, 3.23, 3.38, 3.91, 4.11
3.23, 3.38, 3.91 are LSD

3.15 can be LSD and non-lsd
the rest are non-lsd
