I was thinking about a 2002 for a winter beater too... but I'm weary about getting a carburated car for winter.

Aren’t the 2002 getting a bit rare?? I wouldn’t have the heart to drive a car like that in the winter. Restore it, preserve it.

Get a car like this…

Probably the worst winter beater you can buy... everything is so old and breaks down constantly... don't bother, you'll be forever fixing it. Get an early 90's used Honda, Toyota or Mazda.

You're kidding right?

Why would you want to take a 30 year old classic BMW and make it your winter beater? These cars had zero rust proofing from the factory. That's the reason you very rarely see them on the road in the salt belt. Two winters and off to the glue factory. Hard to guage the condition of the '75 on the Autotrader site but you should leave it for someone who appreciates the history of the model. Then get yourself a salt car. My first one was an '85 Monte Carlo, big block V8, rear wheel drive, tons of fun to drive in the snow!

I saw Dave's 2002 in one of the winter meet pics and that is why I thought people drove them in the winter? I know they have no rust proofing, I just thought somehow with intensive cleaning every day.. one can manage it?..

I get so depressed by looking at the pics

I think it looks soo great bumperless, and with some wide rims.

Must...face...reality

The 2002 is probably the worst car you could get for a winter beater.......and for a $1000 you are going to get a 2002 (if you could find one for that price) with lots of parts needing to be replaced. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
My e30 I bought as a winter beater and it is fuel injected and bought it in excellent condition, but the fact is it is a 17 year old car and I had to put about $3000 of money into it.........

As mentioned before the 2002 is a carb engine and for winter that is going to really suck.......

Why do you guyz insist on getting a BMW for a winter car? Who really cares what you drive in the winter, honestly! Just get an older Jap car. They are very reliable and cheap to fix.

Because, I like BMW's, I don't like older Jap cars........I guess it is a personal preference for me anyway......

Why u gotta do the Monte like that man? Just breaks my heart. Those V8s are fun as heck, I don't know about gas milage but they can move.

I agree with buddy why by a BMW as a winter car, unless it has a salvage title then what the heck.

Many on the boards seem to have E30s as winter cars. What up wit dat, they're like classics now? Anyway wouldn't the E30 make a bad Winter. I mean we all know about the leaks they have. Water in the rear or front cabin, also the trunk (mine is currently leaking I think I should fix it with new tailight assembly). Lastly, I wouldn't think the heater on a car that old produce much heat?
