The flex disc is located on the driveshaft..........In my haynes manual it shows pics of the flex disc (also known as rubber coupling) and how to remove it an install a new one......
It requires you to jack the rear of the car, remove the exhaust system and heatshield.........Thats all that has to be cleared in order to get the driveshaft.......
The rest of the instructions are stated, from what it looks here, no complicated tools are required.......

Yeah, they are like 7.95 at Crappy tire, but if you want to borrow it, I can bring it out to the Post Whore cruize........

Oh yeah the steering thing I am not sure about.........I know it has something to do with play into the steering shaft or something?!?! Again, let me talk to my mechanic, he told me what it was but I have forgotten........
He said it is a common problem with higher milage e30's........

Man, Thank you so much for this post....I have been searching for the solution to that problem forever! and its exactly what you were talking about, the flex disc....I can't believe it was something so simple....I've replace transmision mounts, sub frame bushings..etc. You have no Idea how much this helps, its been driving me crazy. I know what I am doing this weekend. Thanks again man.

I'll replace the flex disk (aka Guibo) for you Jon or Al.. I think I even have an new one sitting in my garage.. it's an easy job but might take me about 2 hours.. but i'll do it for a 24 of Keiths, or a 40 oz. of Crown Royal or Gibsons!
