Cold Start Vavle or Idle Speed Vavle???

Hey,

I have an 84 318i with the M10 motor and I was just wondering if someone could help me.

OK, when its COLD outside, the car revs about 2500 rpm and the engine warms up about 3 mins later. If I try to drive it, the engine bogs and the car jerks back and forth. After it has warmed up it drives fine.

Now, when its WARMER outside and I start my car it revs nice and low and I'm able to drive it without bogging before the engine is warm. After the engine is warmed up, my rpms race to 2500 - 3000 (not all the time, sometimes the rpm go back to normal). Its embarassing, especially sitting at a light. What can it be? is it something simple that i can fix?

You know Sam yet?

He is the expert on idle valves.

Pay particular attention to the part were he writes about drilling a penney with 1/4 inch bit and putting it up stream from the idle valve.

Later,
