engine heater for e30

I'm looking to hook up one of these babies to the iX, as it will hopefully make for better cold morning startups!
I see that it is to be installed in the lower radiator hose, but they
come in different sizes. Does anyone know off hand for the e30,
if the hose is 1.5, 1.75 or 2 inches?
Anyone install an engine heater on their BMW have some experience to share?

Old thread, I know. But I'm interested in getting a block heater for my 89 325ix. Can anybody shed some light as to whether this is really worth the trouble?

I had one in my '73 2002 and it made a big difference. Start ups were easier and warm up times were considerably shorter.

i would be really interested in something liek this too, what is it and how exactly does it work? also is the install procedure hard? can someone shed some info on it cuz ive heard of this before but not really sure what it is

It is a small element that replaces the frost plug on the engine block. It keeps the engine coolant warm. And I would get your mechanic to do it (about 20-30min). Dont forget to get a bottle of engine coolant too!
