Trust me, its easier to squeeze better times out of a Z06 than an E46 m3.
Think about it this way. The best Z drivers are squeezing 112+ MPH out of their traps, whereas an M3 will run a 13.1@104-109.
The margin for performance increase is much larger in a smallblock V8 than a small 6.
Again, even though they compare (FR, high power), I don't think people should even compare the two. The ///M3 was bred for twisty mountain roads while stopping for a nice coffee on the Riviera. The Z06 was designed to be an all round good drive, with an emphasis on the devilish V8 thrust.

hmmmm really?? I think only Japanese overrate their HP.
Just not too long ago RX8.
Americans underrate their cars too. SRT4 it was meant to be 218, but it is 235 now.

i'd still take E46 M3 6SPD over Z06 anyday though...great performing car for your $$$...but quality of the car doesnt match up to BMW. Tlaselva showed me on his own vette..but then the power of it made me forget the flaws lol

The best you can get is the Dinan S2 package that is 18G's US, and some tests have shown that there's not much more than 10 to 15 RWHP. For the M3 to stay neck and neck with the Z, it's got to push about 450 HP, which is not possible with the S54 engine.
The only way it can come close, is a M5 V8 engine transplant.
Hamann (sp?) does the conversion. Quoted 55G's Euro!
Doesn't make sense to spend 160G's on a M3. At that price, you’re better off to buy a Porsche 911 TT. This way you have your 'style' and power, with a warranty.

The fastest e39 5 series is powered by the supercharged e46 m3 motor...something like that in an m3 could murder a z06 or a turbo hands down.

The fastest? I highly doubt it. The same supercharger on an M62 or an S62 would provide a lot more power.

I love M3's and bimmers but I'd never take an e46 M3 over a ZO6
I raced a z06 on the highway this summer. even at 200, he walked away from me like he was taking off in first gear

No, i'm not..it was in some UK bmw magazine...I'll try and find it and scan some pics. Haha, probably cost waaay more then a 911tt and z06 though
The m3 is pretty much maxed if its normally aspirated.
And yeah, the linefelter corvette or whatever that's supercharged can play with most supercars a pittiance of the price

Yup. saw it with my own eyes in L.A. yesterday... their supercharged E46 M3 has 9.5:1 pistons and a air/water aftercooler in a custom made intake plenum. Motor puts out 560HP @11psi.

You have it completely opposite. Chevy under rates their power numbers (known fact) and BMW picks the strongest motor to rate their cars. I have seen dyno sheets here in T.O to prove it... E46 M3 putting down 265rwHP and a stock Z06 with 376rwHP.

It's only been a recent problem with BMW, but it's certainly not unheard of.
The 3.2L Euro motor (E36 chassis) was rated at a VERY OPTIMISTIC 321 HP....
Most guys who have them figured they were putting out 310-315 max. Not a big discrepancy, but I'd prefer to have a motor that puts out at least what it's rated at, rather than just the best of breed putting out that much.
Porsche has had the opposite problem; they usually underrate power as well, mostly because the insurance issues for their cars are bad enough without considering how much power is actually produced.
However, for both BMW and Porsche, this has applied to their high end products; their mainstream consumer level products tend to be pretty close, if not slightly underrated. (E36 328is and Porsche Boxster as examples).
Ford had this problem back in 98-99 with the Cobra, which is why the '03 Cobra probably is so highly underrated. Lots of people have been getting 365-370 rwhp out of a car rated for 390 HP at the flywheel.

In the spring, once Cayuga's open again, we'll see if you can back up those words....
Acutally we can settle this fairly quickly.
Got any time slips from a track?
