Listen buddy

Do all the work you can yourself. It's a trade off for sure, your time and brain power vs. $$$$.

Plugs, valve cover gasket and fuel filter are pretty simple things that you should be able to tackle. Once you've competed the work you'll gain new confidence and and gain a sense of achievement I'll bet.

I do all mechanical work on my car myself and it rocks. For example, when I figured out how to do a valve adjustment there is that moment when you say, "Now I will never pay to have this done every again." HA!

The dog picture is actually Terry, after he spilt gas all over his face.... TRYING to change the fuel filter in the driveway.

You can change the spark plugs, valve cover gasket, and fuel filter yourself. It takes at most 1 hour of your time, and are some of the easiest things you can do on the engine (and parts are very inexpensive...under $120).
Go buy a haynes manual and follow the step-by-step instructions.
