the 2nd gen (not turbo II) aren't fast at all. You should be able to tune it no problem. My friend had one, and I'd tune him SO bad (this is before the engine swap). Now that I did my engine swap, so did he...and he is WAY faster than me. Jap-spec engine with oversized turbo...good for about 350-400 horse....12.00 sec 1/4 mile!

Wow this is an interesting topic so I decided to register and post. I had a Black Turbo II and was a great ride, however the motors do leave a little bit to be desired. Turbo IIs are fast, however the 3rd gen is the one to watch for even tho it only boasts 240hp.

Rx-7's are very fast cars. i don't think you'd beat him. I wouldn't risk it.. cuz then you'll have to listen to his sh*t for a long time to come.. even if you mod ur car and beat him.. he'll bring up his win over and over and over again.

not worth the bs u'll have to listen to for years to come

Light to light it'll be close, on the open road he'll take you. The N/A second gen RX7 isn't a bullet, but they are decently quick. A friend of mine has built 6 of them, 4 1st gens and 2 2nd gens.

Peter

PS: Tell your friend to shift right right before he hits the limiter, he won't hurt it.

he builds 1st generation Rx-7's?
Those are gettin pretty rare, especialy ones that arent rust buckets

Me and my buddy always rip his 10th anniversary turbo II, takin it to the rev limiter, there is actually a horn that sounds at like 7500 rpm I beleive

I hear ya when it comes to burning oil, however if the motor was tuned by someone like "Dave" from KD rotary I feel it's safe to say your auto will run strong without the burning oil effect. Aside from that guys, we all forget even though they may burn oil you can get those damn motors for less than 2K rebuilt factory, add the Apex seals/ pump up the boost and BOOM ur off! Anyhow who the heck cares if you lose, live on the edge and give it all your ride has, one mistake and he's done. Alot of people miss gears when under pressure
